Crown Point Community Schools

A Voice in the Legislature

for Indiana's growing school districts

We are a coalition of school corporations in growing communities that identify unique challenges and advocate for legislative solutions that best serve our students and educators.

We help legislators understand the financial needs of our schools compared to non-growing and other schools and communities -  especially when legislators are constructing budget formulas.

We also identify proposed legislation that could impact our districts' best interests. We keep our coalition aware of their progress and provide research for our representatives that can be helpful in their key decisions.

OUR PRIORITIES

Our Intent

Our Coalition is committed to working with the legislature in a constructive and cooperative manner when addressing these issues. Our administrators in the Coalition are dedicated to fostering positive relationships with their representatives in order to explain the schools’ unique issues of curriculum, staffing and financing.

OUR MEMBERS

Our History

The  Coalition of Growing and Suburban Schools adopted Articles of Incorporation and also not-for-profit status in 2002. Our major objective was gathering data and disseminating information for the members dealing with issues relating to the unique growth and development of public school districts in Indiana.

This information was also intended to be communicated to state legislators to help them understand growth issues and suggest budget formula solutions to address these issues.

The first Board of Directors in 2002 consisted of Dr. John Ellis, Dr. Steven Yager and Dr. Richard D. Wood. The incorporation allowed for further office designations and now consists of a president, vice president and treasurer as nominated and approved by the members of the Coalition in an annual meeting in conjunction with the annual fall/winter meeting of the Indiana School Superintendent’s Association.
